SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce Set to Depart, Reducing Agency to Two Commissioners

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to lose another commissioner, Hester Peirce, who will leave on October 2 after an eight-year tenure.

Her departure will reduce the SEC to two commissioners: Chair Paul Atkins and Mark Uyeda, both Republicans.

This marks only the second time in U.S. history that the SEC has operated with just two commissioners.

The CFTC, another central regulator for crypto-related market structure, derivatives oversight, and enforcement, has been led by Chair Michael Selig as the sole commissioner since December 2025.
