SEC Exemption Sparks Surge in Crypto Tokens and Asset Tokenization
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced an 'Innovation Waiver' that allows for tokenized securities trading platforms to operate in the country, providing a boost to crypto projects related to on-chain trading, liquidity, and asset tokenization.
The waiver grants a five-year exemption to eligible tokenized securities trading venues, permitting them to use licensed automated market makers (AMMs) and liquidity pools to match buyers and sellers. This move has been seen as a significant step toward aligning U.S. traditional capital markets with blockchain infrastructure.
As a result of this regulatory development, digital currencies linked to crypto trading and asset tokenization have surged in recent days. Hyperliquid's native token HYPE, for instance, rose to a record high of $96 on Monday, pushing its market capitalization above $20 billion.
The SEC's exemption has also driven interest in projects such as Uniswap's UNI, Avalanche's AVAX, and Ondo's ONDO, which have seen gains of around 40%, 47%, and 26% respectively over the past week. Meanwhile, Bitcoin has continued its rebound, briefly breaking through $87,000 and hitting an eight-month high.
