SEC Grants Five-Year Exemption for Tokenized Stock Trading on Blockchain Venues

Share

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted a five-year exemption for tokenized stock trading on blockchain venues, just days after the Clarity Act failed in the Senate.

The exemption allows tokenized versions of publicly traded U.S. stocks to be listed and traded without registering as national securities exchanges.

Crypto industry stakeholders had been waiting for relief from regulatory uncertainty, and SEC Chair Paul Atkins telegraphed the move by saying that the agency would act decisively within its statutory authority.
