SEC Greenlights Tokenized Stocks for US Trading
The SEC has taken a significant step towards allowing tokenized stocks to be traded in the US. According to Taylor Lindman, chief counsel of the SEC Crypto Task Force, the first notices for prospective operators are expected to arrive next quarter.
Lindman outlined that schedule during an interview with SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce. The five-year exemption already applies, although he expects firms to need time before publishing notices.
The exemption requires operators to publish notices describing their activities and notify the SEC within one business day of publication. Public companies have 30 days to object to tokenized stocks created by an unaffiliated third party.
