SEC Plans Additional Regulatory Proposals for Crypto Assets
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is planning to introduce additional regulatory proposals for crypto assets, according to Chair Paul Atkins. This move aims to modernize the regulatory framework for digital assets and provide clarity for investment advisers and funds.
Atkins stated that the latest proposal on crypto custody is part of a broader effort to bring existing rules up-to-date with the growing demand for crypto assets. The SEC has proposed new rules to make it easier for investment advisers and regulated funds to hold crypto assets, setting out a dedicated framework for crypto custody.
Atkins highlighted that the crypto asset market has grown significantly since the advent of Bitcoin in 2008, from a niche segment into a multi-trillion-dollar asset class. However, existing rules have not kept pace with this growth, leading to uncertainty and complexity for investment advisers and funds.
