SEC Proposes Regulation Crypto Assets to Simplify Crypto Securities
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed a new regulation called 'Regulation Crypto Assets' to simplify the process of offering crypto securities. The proposal, announced by SEC Chairman Paul Atkins on August 18, 2026, aims to make it easier for companies to raise funds using cryptocurrencies.
Under the proposed regulations, startups can conduct a one-time raise of up to $5 million over four years, while larger companies can raise up to $75 million per year if they adhere to stricter reporting rules. Both options require transparency with investors and may exempt some tokens from being considered 'investment contracts'.
The SEC has opened a 60-day comment period for public feedback before making any changes official. Chairman Atkins stated, 'Today, we are charting a new course with a package of exemptions that would facilitate capital formation and allow crypto asset innovation to flourish in the United States in the years ahead.'
