SEC Submits Crypto Custody Plan for White House Review
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sent its proposed changes to crypto custody rules to the White House for review.
The SEC seeks to modernize rules under the Investment Advisers Act and Investment Company Act for crypto custody, following requests from investment firms for clearer guidance on holding crypto assets while meeting current custody requirements.
The proposal does not change existing custody requirements or create a new rule, but rather aims to update provisions considered outdated due to evolving trading, settlement, and asset-holding practices.
The White House review is ongoing, with the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) listing the proposal as pending since August 25. The SEC's regulatory agenda targets October 2026 for a notice of proposed rulemaking.
