SEC Unveils Framework for Tokenized Stocks, Boosting Crypto-Linked Assets
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a regulatory framework allowing certain platforms to trade tokenized versions of U.S.-listed stocks. This move creates a five-year exemption for approved tokenized securities venues and certain liquidity providers.
Under the new framework, digital versions of National Market System stocks must provide investors with rights comparable to traditional shares, including voting and dividend benefits. Platforms offering tokenized stocks must notify the underlying issuer before listing a security and halt trading whenever the corresponding stock is suspended on its primary exchange.
Crypto-linked stocks have climbed following this development, with Strategy (MSTR) rising about 7% and MARA Holdings (MARA) gaining roughly 6%. Coinbase Global (COIN), Galaxy Digital (GLXY), Circle Internet Group (CRCL), and Robinhood Markets (HOOD) also advanced around 6%, while HOOD added about 3%.
