SEC Chair Paul Atkins has announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched an Innovation Exemption, which aims to develop rules for on-chain financing and tokenized-securities trading.

The framework allows companies to issue tokenized securities representing real rights and interests in underlying securities, with the goal of bringing the securities themselves onto blockchain networks for trading.

Atkins described this direction as 'attractive' and indicated that the agency plans to advance the work on tokenized securities within its broader effort to establish a regulatory framework for blockchain-based financial activity.
