SEC's Tokenized Stock Framework Opens Up New Opportunities for Crypto Firms

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a new framework for tokenized U.S. stocks, which could benefit several crypto companies.

Coinbase, Robinhood, and Circle are among those that may emerge as early beneficiaries of the SEC's innovation exemption.

The exemption allows limited secondary trading of qualifying tokenized U.S. stocks through permissioned automated market makers on public blockchains.

Citizens analysts pointed to USDC's possible role as settlement liquidity and collateral for onchain equity markets, which could give Circle a different exposure to the market.

The three companies have distinct paths to the same market, with Coinbase having broad infrastructure exposure, Robinhood needing to adapt its model, and Circle's opportunity sitting underneath the trading venue.
