Senate Blocks Clarity Act, Sending Crypto Stocks into Freefall
The Senate's decision to block the Clarity Act has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market. The bill, which aimed to establish a comprehensive crypto market-structure framework, fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance.
As a result, Coinbase and Circle shares plummeted by 8% and 10%, respectively, while Bitcoin slid 3%. The industry was left without clearer U.S. market-structure rules, leaving platforms like Coinbase and Robinhood facing uncertainty.
Robinhood's stock price took a hit, falling 6.2% in the afternoon session. Despite this decline, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Robinhood's shares five years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $2,502.
