Senate Crypto Clarity Act Rumors Spark Debate Over Misidentified Bill Number
The crypto community is abuzz with rumors that the U.S. Senate has already approved the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act, but this unverified claim relies on an AI-generated video that misidentifies the bill number.
The viral post from prominent XRP-focused social media account JackTheRippler claims the Senate 'has already PASSED the Crypto Clarity Act behind the scenes and will OFFICIALLY pass it on SEPTEMBER 15 for the public.'
However, the video depicted in the post shows a mock Senate chamber vote with a tally of 68 in favor and 30 against, captioned as the passage of H.R. 3191, but this is actually an entirely different piece of legislation.
The real bill, formally known as the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act, aims to establish clear regulatory definitions for digital assets within the U.S. financial system, and its core purpose is to delineate which assets fall under the jurisdiction of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and which are overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Senate Majority Leader John Thune initiated the cloture process just before the chamber adjourned for recess, setting up a procedural vote for September 15 when lawmakers return to Washington. The bill requires at least 60 votes to clear this hurdle.
