Senate Delays CLARITY Act Vote Until September Amid Ethics Disputes
The CLARITY Act, a flagship crypto market structure bill in Congress, has hit another snag as the Senate delayed its vote until September 2026.
This delay comes amid disagreements over proposed ethics rules involving federal officials and their crypto holdings. Specifically, a bipartisan counteroffer would require federal officials to divest any crypto holdings worth more than $1 million that also represent at least 10% of a company's value. Officials with smaller stakes above $15,000 would be required to place holdings in a blind trust or divest outright.
The delay has left the industry facing uncertainty over when, or whether, a durable regulatory framework will reach the Senate floor. The outcome of ongoing ethics and commodities negotiations will likely determine how quickly bipartisan support materializes.
