Senate Delays Crypto Clarity Act Amid Growing GOP Opposition
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a landmark cryptocurrency legislation, has hit a roadblock in the US Senate. According to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, the bill will not reach the Senate floor before the summer recess begins around August 7, 2026.
This delay complicates the bill's legislative timeline as Congress prepares for its upcoming session. Passing the bill requires 60 votes to overcome procedural hurdles in the Senate, where Republicans currently hold 53 seats.
Brian Gardner, chief Washington policy strategist at Stifel, warned that missing the summer deadline would cause prospects to deteriorate materially. The bill has already passed the House of Representatives in July 2025 and cleared the Senate Banking Committee in May 2026 but remains stalled on the Senate Legislative Calendar.
