U.S. Senate Democrats have escalated their criticism of the Clarity Act, a pending crypto legislation that aims to formalize Commodity Futures Trading Commission oversight for many tokens and widen domestic access to crypto derivatives.

The bill has been met with resistance from some senators who argue it leaves major ethics gaps around President Donald Trump's business interests. Senator Elizabeth Warren claims Trump earned $1.4 billion from crypto schemes, including $636 million from the meme coin $TRUMP and $525 million from World Liberty Financial tokens.

Warren argues that the Clarity Act would not prohibit future presidential earnings from meme coins or crypto-related events, according to ethics adviser Virginia Canter. The senator frames the issue as a fixable legislative problem rather than an abstract ethics debate.

The forum also centered on consumer and market risks, with critics arguing that crypto fosters fraud, terrorism financing, and conflicts of interest. Lori Flowers, appearing on the panel as a consumer affected by crypto-related losses, described digital assets as an easy channel for criminals to steal funds.
