Senate Fails to Advance Crypto Regulation Bill, Leaving Oversight Divided

The U.S. Senate has failed to advance the Clarity Act, leaving crypto market oversight divided between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The bill aimed to establish a digital-asset framework that would assign regulatory responsibilities between the two agencies.

The 49-50 procedural vote means existing SEC and CFTC rules remain in effect without the additional definitions and boundaries the legislation sought to provide.

This outcome extends regulatory uncertainty for crypto businesses and market participants operating in the United States, as compliance requirements will continue to depend on the agencies' existing authorities.
