Senate Fails to Advance Cryptocurrency Regulation Bill Amid Ethics Concerns
The U.S. Senate failed to advance the Clarity Act, a bill aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency industry, after a 49-50 vote on Tuesday.
The bill needed 60 votes to move forward but fell short due to concerns from Democrats and some Republicans about its ethics standards.
Senate Democrats, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, expressed concerns that the bill would allow public officials to profit off cryptocurrency ventures, citing President Donald Trump's $1.4 billion in crypto-related income last year.
Warren said she believes 'we can get crypto legislation that both Republicans and Democrats agree on -- but not this bill,' accusing the Clarity Act of 'turbocharging Donald Trump's unprecedented corruption.'
