Senate Rejection Sends Crypto Prices Down, But One Trader Sees Opportunity for Rebound
The Senate blocked the Clarity Act on a 49-50 procedural vote, dealing a significant blow to the cryptocurrency industry's years-long efforts for regulatory certainty. The rejection of the bill sent Bitcoin down by 3.6% to $43.11.
A large options trader, known as a whale, bought about $5.75 million worth of December 2027 calls on the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT.US) and sold $4.59 million worth of $47 calls on the same asset. This trade, known as a bull call spread, indicates that the trader is betting on a rebound in the price of IBIT from around $43 to $47 over the next 15 months.
The trader's strategy involved selling the higher-strike option to fund most of the position, which limited their potential losses and capped their gains above $47. This move suggests that the trader is taking a bullish view on Bitcoin while managing risk effectively.
