Sequans Completes Bitcoin Treasury Exit with Final 314 BTC Sale
French chipmaker Sequans Communications has completed its exit from a Bitcoin treasury strategy that began in July 2025. The company sold its final 314 BTC, leaving no cryptocurrency on its balance sheet. This marks the end of Sequans' initiative to hold and sell Bitcoin to repay debt.
The sale did not fund the repayment of convertible debt, which was completed on May 28 using proceeds from earlier Bitcoin sales. At that time, Sequans still held about 658 BTC and said it would sell the rest over time. The company now has no outstanding debt other than obligations tied to government-financed research and development projects.
Sequans' CEO Georges Karam stated that the completed exit allows the company to focus on its semiconductor business, which includes priorities such as cellular IoT chips, 5G eRedCap, and software-defined radio products. The announcement notes that this is a balance-sheet decision, not a retreat by corporate Bitcoin holders as a group.
The company's journey with Bitcoin began in July 2025 when it closed a $384 million debt-and-equity investment to start its Bitcoin treasury initiative. In November of the same year, Sequans sold 970 BTC to repay half of the convertible debt. Later sales funded the remaining debt repayment in May 2026.
