Sequans Completes Unwinding of Corporate Bitcoin Holdings
Sequans Communications has completed its unwinding of its corporate Bitcoin strategy by selling off its remaining 314 tokens. This move comes after the company initially accumulated over 3,200 BTC in mid-2025 as part of a treasury experiment.
The French chipmaker had aggressively acquired these tokens but began scaling back its position within months due to shifting financing priorities. By May 2026, management announced it was 'no longer pursuing' the treasury strategy and would monetize the remaining holdings over time.
With the sale of its final 314 BTC, Sequans has eliminated all cryptocurrency holdings and no longer faces redemption burdens or crypto price volatility risks. The company now plans to focus on its core businesses: cellular Internet-of-Things connectivity and software-defined radio technology.
This move reflects a broader trend among companies that had borrowed to buy Bitcoin, with at least nine firms fully liquidating or abandoning their crypto treasury strategies in 2026. Matthew Sigel, head of digital assets research at VanEck, attributed these exits to debt repayment pressures, working capital requirements, shareholder return objectives, and strategic pivots.
