Sequans Joins Ranks of Companies Abandoning Crypto Treasury Strategies
Sequans Communications, a French semiconductor company, has sold its remaining 314 Bitcoin, marking its complete exit from a corporate treasury strategy that once held over 3,200 BTC. The sale follows the redemption of its convertible debt in May 2026 and will allow the company to focus on its core cellular Internet-of-Things (IoT) and software-defined radio businesses.
The company's Chief Executive, Georges Karam, said that eliminating its convertible debt, monetizing remaining Bitcoin holdings, and emerging with a strong balance sheet have positioned the Company to execute its long-term semi-conductor growth strategy. Sequans' semiconductor business is showing signs of growth as it moves away from the Bitcoin strategy.
The exit comes amid a broader pullback by multiple publicly-traded companies from Bitcoin treasury strategies. At least nine companies had fully liquidated or abandoned their crypto treasury strategies in 2026, according to Digital Assets Research Head Matthew Sigel. Companies have cited different reasons for the reversals, including debt repayment, working-capital requirements, shareholder returns, and changes in corporate strategy.
