Sequans Sells Last Remaining Bitcoin, Exits Cryptocurrency Reserve Strategy
Sequans Communications, a French semiconductor company, has sold its last remaining 314 Bitcoin (BTC) in a move to exit its Bitcoin reserve strategy. This marks the end of an investment that began in June 2025, when the company announced a $384 million stock and convertible debt offering. At the time, CEO Georges Karam described Bitcoin as 'a primary asset and very attractive long-term investment'. However, just months later, Sequans started to reduce its holdings, selling 970 BTC in November to redeem half of its convertible debt.
By May 2026, Sequans announced that it would no longer pursue the reserve strategy, instead opting to liquidate its remaining Bitcoin. This move comes amid a broader trend, with at least nine companies abandoning or reducing their Bitcoin and cryptocurrency reserves last year, according to VanEck Digital Assets Research head Matthew Sigel.
Sequans' decision to exit its Bitcoin holdings was made after the company completed a callable convertible bond redemption in May 2026. The sale of its remaining Bitcoin will allow Sequans to focus on its core business of cellular IoT and software-defined radio, according to Karam. With this move, Sequans has eliminated its cryptocurrency reserves and no longer holds any outstanding debt.
