SGX Prepares to Bring Crypto Perps to US Institutions

Singapore Exchange Ltd. is preparing to offer its cryptocurrency perpetual futures to US institutions after filing with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission last month.

This move would make SGX the first major traditional exchange to bring one of crypto's favorite trades into the mainstream, giving it access to a deeper pool of hedge funds, asset managers, and proprietary trading firms.

The exchange launched Bitcoin and Ether perpetual futures last November, but the new contracts will have some key differences from their crypto counterparts.

Unlike traditional futures, perpetual futures do not have expiry dates. However, SGX's contracts will trade 22.5 hours a day, five days a week, with members required to post 35% margin and use fiat collateral.
