SGX Secures CFTC Approval for US Institutional Access to BTC and ETH Futures
The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has secured approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to allow American institutions direct access to its Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetual futures contracts.
This green light comes under Regulation 48.10, a CFTC framework for recognized foreign exchanges. SGX launched its BTP and ETP contracts in late November 2025, which have since recorded $5.8 billion in cumulative traded volume.
The approval means that U.S. clearing members will begin onboarding clients within the next one to two months. KC Lam, head of crypto derivatives at SGX Group, called the ruling an important milestone and noted that it bridges U.S. TradFi desks with Asian liquidity pools, legitimizing crypto derivatives as a regulated asset class.
The infrastructure for trading is already in place, with FIS-enabled back-office integration fully implemented to support onboarding of U.S. clearing members over the coming month or two.
