SGX Wins US Clearance for Crypto Perpetuals with $5.8B in Volume

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has secured clearance from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to offer cryptocurrency perpetual futures to institutional investors in the United States. This regulatory nod is significant as it allows SGX to expand its reach into the US market, connecting traditional market clients with Asian liquidity pools.

The bitcoin and ether perpetual futures contracts launched on the SGX platform in November 2025 have accumulated $5.8 billion in volume, with bitcoin accounting for 83% of average daily volume since inception.

Unlike native crypto platforms, SGX uses margin calls and additional collateral to manage risk, avoiding automatic liquidations that can trigger cascading sell-offs during volatility spikes. The contracts are referenced to indices developed jointly with CoinDesk Indices, administered under European benchmark regulation.
