Shelby Exits Testnet, Enters Private Beta with Core Platform Proven
Shelby, a decentralized storage platform designed for AI and distributed computing jobs, has transitioned from testnet to private beta. The team announced this shift on September 29, 2026, after months of testing on the Aptos testnet.
The core platform proved reliable during the testnet period, but builders required specific tooling, APIs, and compatibility to build on it. Shelby shipped kits for React, Ethereum, Solana, and S3-compatible tools, aiming to meet developers where they already work.
Shelby's architecture combines Aptos smart contracts with RPC servers, private networks, and erasure coding. Erasure coding splits data into pieces with built-in redundancy, allowing the original to be rebuilt even if some pieces go missing.
The team is now focused on real customer applications and optimizing the platform for genuine AI data workloads. The Aptos ecosystem may benefit from Shelby as a test of whether the chain can serve as a coordination layer for data-heavy infrastructure.
