Shiba Inu Ecosystem Expands with Shibarium Launch and Future Plans
The Shiba Inu project has evolved significantly since its launch in August 2020 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Initially, it was created by an anonymous founder named Ryoshi with a large supply of 1 quadrillion tokens. The team behind the project has been actively working on building an ecosystem around SHIB, which now includes a decentralized exchange (DEX), a Layer 2 network called Shibarium, and a governance system.
Shibarium is a key component of the Shiba Inu roadmap, serving as a Layer 2 network that processes transactions cheaply before settling back to the main Ethereum chain. It uses BONE for gas and allocates a portion of network fees towards SHIB burns. The project reported over 800 million total transactions in early 2025.
The Shiba Inu roadmap also includes plans for ShibOS, a stack of ecosystem modules, and the Alpha Layer, a modular rollup layer built for speed. Other upcoming features include FHE-powered Shibarium, which will enable privacy features using Zama's technology, and Doggy DAO, an on-chain community governance system.
