Shiba Inu Expands to Solana Breaking from Shibarium Focus
Shiba Inu (SHIB), the popular meme coin originally built on Ethereum, has expanded its presence by launching on Solana. This move marks a shift from its previous focus on Shibarium, its own layer-2 network. The listing was facilitated through Sunrise, a token gateway supported by Wormhole Labs, ensuring that SHIB on Solana is the canonical token, not a wrapped version.
The announcement coincided with a 3.89% increase in SHIB's price over the past 24 hours, with most of the gains occurring after the Solana listing. Over the past week, SHIB has risen by 2.69%, though it remains 93% below its October 2021 all-time high. Solana's listing was announced on X, with the SHIB team playfully acknowledging the news.
Solana has been a hub for dog-themed meme coins like Bonk (BONK), which has seen a decline recently. SHIB's entry into this crowded market comes at a time when its competitors are struggling. The lower transaction fees on Solana, compared to Ethereum's fluctuating costs, may attract traders to SHIB on this network.
The expansion also carries risks, including the presence of unofficial SHIB tokens on Solana. Users are advised to verify the official contract address before trading. This move tests whether meme coin loyalty can extend across different blockchains, potentially paving the way for other Ethereum-based tokens to follow suit.
