Shiba Inu Joins Solana Network Via Sunrise Asset Gateway
Shiba Inu (SHIB) has officially gone live on the Solana network, thanks to the Sunrise asset gateway. This integration allows SHIB to be traded directly within the Solana decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem without leaving the platform. Solana describes Shiba Inu as one of the largest communities in crypto, which has expanded beyond its origins as a meme cryptocurrency with a dog-themed mascot.
The Solana debut doesn't mean SHIB is leaving Ethereum, as the original form of SHIB is an ERC-20 token. Nor does it mean Shibarium is moving to Solana. Sunrise is simply bringing in the canonical Solana representation of the asset to enable trading within Solana's markets.
Wormhole Labs-powered Sunrise is an asset gateway that brings assets from external ecosystems to Solana. It creates a canonical Solana token, provisions liquidity, and integrates with wallets, DEXs, and aggregators. This is crucial to avoid fragmented liquidity, where multiple unofficial versions of the same cryptocurrency exist on a blockchain.
SHIB has seen a muted price response to the Solana news, with the meme cryptocurrency trading at around $0.0000057 at press time. Despite this, the integration has significantly expanded SHIB's on-chain trading options.
