Shiba Inu Launches on Solana Expanding DeFi Trading Options
Shiba Inu (SHIB), one of the largest meme coins in the crypto space, has launched on the Solana network through the Sunrise gateway. This move allows SHIB to be traded directly within Solana's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, eliminating the need to leave the network to access the token.
Solana described Shiba Inu as having one of the largest communities in crypto, noting its evolution beyond being just a meme cryptocurrency with a dog-themed mascot. The integration does not mean SHIB is leaving Ethereum, as the original form remains an ERC-20 token, nor does it indicate Shibarium's migration to Solana. Instead, Sunrise is introducing a canonical Solana representation of SHIB for trading purposes.
Sunrise, powered by Wormhole Labs, is designed to bring external assets into the Solana ecosystem. It ensures the creation of an approved canonical token, provisions liquidity, and integrates with wallets, DEXs, and aggregators. This prevents the existence of multiple unofficial versions of the same cryptocurrency, which can lead to fragmented liquidity.
Since its launch in November 2025, Sunrise has listed several major assets, including Monad's MON, Dogecoin, and PEPE. Despite the expanded ecosystem reach, SHIB has seen minimal price response, trading around $0.0000057 at press time. The integration, however, has significantly broadened SHIB's on-chain trading options.
