Shiba Inu's Multi-Billion-Dollar Mystery: How Speculation Became the Main Driver
The Shiba Inu cryptocurrency, often referred to as the 'Dogecoin killer', has become a multi-billion-dollar asset without solving any significant technical problems.
Launched in 2020 by a pseudonymous creator known as Ryoshi on the Ethereum network, Shiba Inu's initial pitch was to build a dog-themed token that could surpass Dogecoin by incorporating decentralized finance features.
The project aimed to create five linked tokens: $SHIB, BONE, LEASH, TREAT, and SHI. While three of these tokens are live today - BONE, LEASH, and TREAT - the fifth token, SHI, remains unfinished, with its launch dependent on clearer U.S. stablecoin regulation.
Shiba Inu's market cap stands at approximately $2.87 billion, despite a significant drop in price from its 2021 peak of $0.00008616 to about $0.0000049 today, roughly 94% below that high.
