Shiba Inu's Shibarium Layer Solves Key Limitations for Ecosystem Growth
Shiba Inu's decision to build its own blockchain layer, Shibarium, wasn't taken lightly. Launched in August 2023, Shibarium was designed to process transactions faster and more cheaply than Ethereum mainnet while still settling back to Ethereum for security.
The project had outgrown the limitations of being built on Ethereum, including high gas fees and limited transaction throughput during periods of network congestion.
Shibarium solved four key problems for Shiba Inu: high gas fees that could exceed the value of small transactions, network congestion slowing down ecosystem activity, no dedicated infrastructure for gaming and DeFi products, and the inability to differentiate the ecosystem from being 'just another ERC-20 token.'
