Shortwave Coffee Accepts Bitcoin Payments After Months of Customer Pressure

Shortwave Coffee has become one of the first independent coffee shops in Missouri to accept Bitcoin payments. In July 2026, after months of persistence from local Bitcoin enthusiasts, the shop finally started accepting the cryptocurrency at all five locations across three states.

The story began when a group of Bitcoiners approached the baristas and management multiple times, asking if they accepted Bitcoin. After writing to the company's email address several times, the shop agreed to accept the payments in July 2026.

This development is part of a larger movement where customers are demanding that businesses adopt Bitcoin as a payment option. With Square automatically switching on Bitcoin acceptance for up to 4 million terminals since March 2026, more shops are expected to follow suit.
