Sidney Resident Loses $19,000 in Cryptocurrency Scam
A resident of Sidney, British Columbia, lost almost $19,000 to a cryptocurrency scam after receiving a phone call from a man claiming to be an RCMP officer.
The scammer told the victim that his personal information had been leaked and convinced him to provide sensitive details about his cryptocurrency account.
Police issued a warning after the resident reported the incident, stating that they would never request banking passwords or cryptocurrency account credentials over the phone.
They advise anyone receiving similar calls to hang up and contact their local police instead.
