SimpleSwap Report: Cryptocurrency Market Sees Mixed Results in First Half of 2026
The SimpleSwap H1 2026 Swap Report reveals a mixed picture of the cryptocurrency market. The first half of 2026 saw a decline in swap volume, with a drop of -33.9% compared to the second half of 2025. This is significantly less severe than the decline in spot volume on top centralized exchanges, which plummeted by nearly 51%. Bitcoin dominance broke above 60%, but its share of platform volume fell 5.2 points to 43.4%. The report's findings suggest that traders have been holding onto their assets and not liquidating them as quickly.
The median wait from listing to first use on SimpleSwap was 48 days, with new assets taking an average of 101 hours to reach a meaningful level of activity. This highlights the uneven attention given to new tokens. The market's noisiest segment, memecoins, accounted for only 1.1% of volume and 1.4% of transactions during this period. Meanwhile, cross-chain volume has grown roughly a hundredfold since 2022.
The report also notes that stablecoin inflows stopped responding to Bitcoin's price movements partway through the half. In February, when Bitcoin dropped 17.5%, inflows surged 600% above their weekly average, but in June, when it dropped 15.7%, inflows were only 9% below average.
