Singapore Heists: Malaysian Duo Sentenced for $4.9M Crypto Robbery
Six Malaysian men have been convicted in Singapore for their roles in a brazen armed robbery that targeted high-stakes poker games at a luxury property in Bukit Timah. The robbers, who were identified as two ringleaders and four accomplices, forced players to transfer cryptocurrency to designated wallets during the 2024 heist.
The stolen assets included cash, luxury items, and cryptocurrencies worth approximately S$4.9 million. However, police have recovered only about S$1.69 million in cryptocurrency, leaving the rest unaccounted for.
The two ringleaders were each sentenced to 12 years and 11 months in prison and 24 strokes of the cane, a severe punishment that reflects the gravity of the crime. The sentences are likely intended to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider committing similar offenses.
