Singapore Launches Global Task Force to Combat Crypto Crimes
The Singapore Police Force has launched its first global task force to combat crypto crimes, in collaboration with US-based Chainalysis and other international partners. The operation aimed to prevent losses from government impersonation scams and investment schemes, and identified over 355 local victims who were at risk of losing S$8.94 million.
The initiative, which ran from July to August, also involved cryptocurrency exchanges Coinbase and OKX, as well as Gemini. According to the police, the operation was successful in blocking significant losses and preventing further harm to unsuspecting investors.
Notably, the intelligence gathered by Chainalysis was shared with both the FBI and New South Wales Police, leading to the identification of another 50 overseas targets. This marks a significant milestone in international cooperation to combat crypto-related crimes.
