Singapore Sentences Six Malaysians for Cryptocurrency-Focused Poker Heist
Two ringleaders of an armed gang robbery at a high-stakes poker game in Singapore were sentenced to lengthy prison terms and caning. Wong Chi Shan and Goh Boon Tong each received 12 years and 11 months in prison, 24 strokes of the cane, and a S$4,000 fine.
The gang targeted poker games settled in cryptocurrency at a residence in Bukit Timah. They learned about these games in 2023 and decided to rob the house after surveying its security vulnerabilities.
Seven masked men entered the property on April 18, 2024, with three carrying machetes and two armed with baseball bats. The victims were restrained with tape while Wong and Goh transferred assets into a wallet controlled by the group.
The robbers stole about S$3.6 million in crypto, along with local and foreign currency, luxury watches, and other property. A total of S$4,905,981 was stolen from the poker game.
