Singapore's Crypto Economy Surges Amid Regional Contraction
Singapore's crypto activity surged 55.4% in the year ended June 2026, reaching $284 billion and reclaiming its position as the largest crypto economy in Central and Southeast Asia and Oceania (CSAO), according to Chainalysis.
The growth was largely driven by institutional platform activity, which increased 94% to $60 billion. This rise came from a small number of market makers, over-the-counter trading firms, and institutional brokerages.
Chainalysis noted that the growth in Singapore's institutional platform ecosystem was concentrated among existing platforms rather than new entrants. The firm also observed that this growth marked 'mostly high-volume activity'.
The findings come as Singapore tightens crypto regulation while supporting tokenization, stablecoins, and digital-asset settlement. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has implemented measures to license local crypto firms serving overseas clients or force them to exit the market.
