Situational Awareness, a hedge fund founded by Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI researcher, has made a significant recovery from its near-collapse in July. The fund invested $400 million in an undisclosed company, just days after it faced margin calls due to the AI stock crash.

The investment was completed on Tuesday and marks a major turnaround for the fund, which saw its assets fall by 78% in July. In a move to stabilize its finances, Situational Awareness sold most of its public equity portfolio to Citadel, allowing it to repay lenders and retain its private holdings.

The fund's focus on power and data centers supporting AI, including Bitcoin miners expanding into AI computing, had led to significant losses in July. However, the latest investment suggests that Situational Awareness is committed to regrouping and continuing its investment strategy.
