Six Factors Weighing on Bitcoin's Price: ETF Outflows and Mt. Gox Distributions Top List

Crypto analyst Lark Davis identified six factors weighing on Bitcoin's price, including ETF outflows and Mt. Gox distributions. The dominant driving force remains Bitcoin's historical four-year market cycle, which has triggered large drawdowns after major bull-market peaks. Davis stated that while most of these factors are short-term, the ongoing influence of the four-year cycle is the primary reason for Bitcoin's recent price decline.

Bitcoin (BTC) fell below $68,000 in midday trading on Tuesday, triggering over $1.23 billion in crypto liquidations and extending a selloff that has left the cryptocurrency more than 45% below its record high. Davis pointed to Strategy's recent sale of 32 Bitcoin for $2.5 million as one of the secondary factors adding pressure to the market.

The four-year cycle continues to exert the greatest influence on price action, and Davis noted that this is not a new phenomenon. Historically, Bitcoin has experienced large drawdowns after major bull-market peaks, and the current selloff is consistent with this pattern. The technical breakdown of Bitcoin breaking below an ascending channel support line also contributed to the price decline.

Despite the recent weakness, Davis pointed out that Bitcoin's longer-term performance remains stronger than many investors realize. From the lows reached in late 2022 through today, Bitcoin has gained approximately 333%, compared with a 237% gain for the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK), a technology ETF heavily weighted toward companies such as Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
