SMBB Nikko and Uniswap Partner for Japan's First Regulatory-Compliant DeFi Gateway
Japanese brokerage SMBC Nikko has partnered with Uniswap Labs and other entities to create a regulatory-compliant DeFi Gateway. This platform will utilize Uniswap v4 Hooks technology, ensuring liquidity pools comply with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regulations.
The collaboration aims to establish a bridge between Japan's financial sector and decentralized finance (DeFi). SMBC Nikko expects the DeFi Gateway to launch in mid-2027, with updates provided to Japanese regulatory authorities throughout the development process.
Nethermind will share technical leadership responsibilities with SMBC Nikko. Base, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution developed by Coinbase, is also participating in the agreement. This partnership builds on projections made by Standard Chartered four months earlier, predicting Uniswap's liquidity pools could expand their asset holdings 37-fold by 2030.
Uniswap (UNI) has been trading at $8.91 amid Bitcoin's recovery above $86,000. Technical analysts have identified a potential cup-and-handle formation on the daily chart, with key resistance around $10.30. The MACD indicator has crossed beneath its signal line, indicating the September uptrend may be losing momentum.
