Socios and Securitize Partner on Tokenized Sports Team Equity
Socios and Securitize announced a partnership to issue tokenized equity in professional sports teams. The Chiliz Group, parent of Socios, introduced an equity token product on August 27 without naming an issuer.
The partnership provides a licensed issuer for the product, with Socios leading relationships with teams and the fan-facing layer, and Securitize handling regulated securities issuance, investor onboarding, and ownership records.
Securitize will deploy its European Trading & Settlement System under the EU DLT Pilot Regime, which has hard size limits. Shares can be admitted to a DLT market infrastructure only if the issuer's market capitalization is below €500 million at the moment of admission.
The initiative is expected to be the first tokenization project launched through Securitize's European Trading & Settlement System under the EU DLT Pilot Regime, with Socios aiming to tap into the €500 billion global value of professional sports franchises.
