SoFi Launches Stablecoin Settlement for $25B Mastercard Card Program

Share

SoFi Technologies has successfully launched its stablecoin settlement for the $25 billion Mastercard card program, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of blockchain technology in the financial sector. The company's bank-issued token, SoFiUSD, now handles stablecoin settlement for SoFi debit and credit transactions on Mastercard's global network.

The partnership between SoFi and Mastercard began six months ago, with the two companies working together to bring the product from an idea to reality. According to Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi, this achievement showcases the speed and efficiency of blockchain technology, while maintaining the safeguards of a bank.

The rollout across the card network provides a live environment for testing the stablecoin settlement process, with the next stage of implementation dependent on merchant integration and network development. The use of SoFiUSD ensures that merchants do not need to possess the token or set up wallets for the blockchain, making it easier for them to participate in the new payment system.
