Solana Aims to Overtake Ethereum with Speed and Performance Advantages
Solana's potential to flip Ethereum has reignited debate among crypto enthusiasts. Kyle Samani, co-founder of Multicoin Capital, believes Solana will surpass Ethereum in this cycle due to its superior performance. He points out that Solana excels in speed, trading activity, and user adoption.
According to data from DeFiLlama, Solana has generated around $23 million in fees over the last 30 days, whereas Ethereum's layer-1 blockchain raked in approximately $12.6 million during the same period.
Solana offers benefits to developers such as sub-second finality of transactions, low fees, and native composability. However, a Solana flip Ethereum remains a distant possibility due to the vast market capitalization gap between the two assets, with Ethereum's market cap sitting at $293 billion compared to Solana's $58 billion.
Ethereum has a structural advantage over Solana, including its liquidity, use in stablecoins, and role in settlement infrastructure. Its layer-1 focuses on settlement and security, while L2s like Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism handle execution.
