Solana Bolsters Performance Amid Record Network Activity

Solana is pushing through significant performance upgrades as its network activity reaches record levels.

The blockchain has implemented a new transaction format, V1, which increases the amount of data a single transaction can carry to 4,096 bytes, up from just over 1,200 bytes. This allows developers to bundle more complex actions into one transaction and reduces the risk of partial failure.

Solana is also reducing the interval between slots, the short intervals in which the network processes activity, from 400 milliseconds to 250ms on September 18. The next step would be to reduce it further to 200ms, but this has not yet been scheduled for mainnet activation.
