Solana Boosts Block Speed with 17% Increase

Solana has made a significant update to its network by reducing its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, resulting in an approximately 17% increase in block speed. This change will allow applications on the Solana blockchain to receive faster network updates and improve transaction accuracy.

The reduction in block time also shortens the epoch duration from around 36 hours to 30 hours. Additionally, a future reduction to 200 milliseconds is planned but not yet scheduled for mainnet.

While this update provides benefits such as fresher blockchain data, it also introduces limitations on offline signing and delayed transaction approvals. This trade-off should be taken into consideration by users who rely on these features.
