Solana Breakout Brewing as Altcoin Momentum Returns
Solana has been gaining strength as altcoin momentum returns to the market. According to recent data, Solana's SOL token is leading the pack among large-cap altcoins with a 9% weekly gain, surging to as high as $114 and breaking above key resistance.
The SOL/ETH ratio is also up 4%, signaling stronger relative demand for Solana versus Ethereum as Bitcoin reclaimed $80,000. This is significant because the timing is key - TOTAL3 has moved back above $800 billion for the first time in more than eight months, while 70% of Binance-listed altcoins are now above their 200-day moving average.
The technical setup suggests that Solana is not just riding the rotation of the broader altcoin market but is attracting relative demand as capital rotates away from Bitcoin. The SOL/BTC ratio is up more than 4%, as Solana dominance broke above 2.3%, just as Bitcoin dominance struggles near 60%.
The institutional data adds weight to this setup, with the U.S. Spot Solana ETFs recording $47.62 million in net inflows on September 18th, with the entire inflow coming through the BSOL ETF. Additionally, the Solana network achieved an all-time high in terms of on-chain activity, which reached 5.2 billion non-vote transactions in August, increasing by 19% compared to the previous record set in July.
