Solana Breaks Above $100 Amid Institutional Demand

Solana's price has surpassed $100, marking a significant breakthrough for the cryptocurrency. The move comes after a 25% weekly rally and is accompanied by renewed institutional demand, with spot Solana ETFs seeing inflows of $33.49 million on August 24.

The protocol's Agave 4.2 release is now live on mainnet, bringing larger transaction capacity and phased reductions in slot times. This upgrade is expected to improve the network's performance and scalability. Additionally, the network is preparing for Alpenglow, a next-generation consensus upgrade targeting roughly 150ms finality.

Derivatives data shows aggressive trading around the breakout, with 24-hour SOL futures volume increasing by 78.14% to $15.30 billion, while open interest has climbed 12.65% to $6.66 billion. Options activity has also surged, with options volume up 70.59% and options open interest increased by 6.63%.

The breakout's success depends on whether SOL can hold above $100 as spot demand continues to rise. A failure to maintain this level could lead to a pullback into the previous range and delay the breakout.
