Solana CISO Warns of Rising AI-Driven Crypto Scams

Solana Foundation's new Chief Information Security Officer, Michael Coates, has sounded the alarm about AI-powered crypto scams.

Coates warns that artificial intelligence is making it increasingly easier for attackers to craft convincing messages, voices, and identities, leading to a rise in social engineering attacks on both individual users and teams within the crypto ecosystem.

The Solana Foundation CISO emphasizes that this is not a flaw in the blockchain or smart contracts themselves but rather an issue of user vulnerability and manipulation.

Crypto security has traditionally focused on code-based threats, such as smart contract vulnerabilities and private key management. However, with AI-facilitated attacks becoming more sophisticated, Coates urges the industry to adopt 'secure by default' principles, where systems are designed to limit potential damage from user mistakes.
